Jack Dempsey - Autograph, Card With COA of JSA

Rare autograph of Jack Dempsey. The signature was authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA), with its certificate of authenticity and a unique number (listed on the JSA website) certifying its authenticity.

Jack Dempsey was born in 1895 into a very poor family; he had Irish blood, but also Cherokee Indian. His nickname "The Manassa Mauler" (Mauler means "Slasher").

Inventor of the famous "Dempsey Roll" technique, later used by Mike Tyson. Jack's career took off like a rocket.

He crushes all his opponents; in 1919 he faces the reigning champion, a giant over 2 meters tall who had KO'd the legendary Jack Johnson. Dempsey KO's the giant in 3 rounds after sending him to the mat seven times, becoming the world heavyweight champion.

At the same time, Georges Carpentier becomes world light-heavyweight champion. He challenges Dempsey; for the first time a fight is broadcast on the radio. Carpentier is KO'd in the 4th round.

Dempsey becomes America's idol, his reign lasting more than 7 years. He would set an unprecedented attendance record of over 125,000 spectators for his fight against Gene Tunney.

He died in 1983.
