R. Rassaa, Derviche tourneur, original oil painting 75 x 55 cm from Tunisia, 2026, contemporary religious depiction, signed, sold with stand, excellent condition.
Description from the seller
The painting depicts two whirling dervishes in the practice of the Sama (the Sufi ritual dance).
The main figure: He occupies the center of the canvas, captured in full motion of rotation. His robe (the tennure) fans out widely to form a pleated, dynamic corolla. His posture, arms extended, evokes surrender and spiritual connection.
The second figure: More blurred and positioned in the background to the right, it enhances the depth effect and suggests that this dance is a collective experience or an infinite repetition of the movement.
The choice of this intense hue, ranging from pale pink to deep magenta, adds a modern and emotional dimension to a subject traditionally treated with more sober colors (often white).
The background is treated with vertical, abstract brushstrokes, creating an ethereal atmosphere that seems to make the air around the dancers vibrate.
You can notice blur effects and flowing lines to render the speed of rotation tangible. We feel the centrifugal energy of the dance."
