Humidor in mahogany and cedar, model Placeres, manufactured by C.E. Beck y Ca. in Germany, in good used condition with minor signs of age, Art Nouveau style, 18 cm high, 23 cm wide, 11 cm deep.
Description from the seller
It is a piece that preserves that solemn, almost diplomatic air of humidors made for tobacco houses with international ambitions. The box, crafted in a reddish-toned, deeply polished mahogany, shows on the exterior a sober yet elegant work: incised lines that frame the two front doors and, in the center of each, the engraved crest of C.E. Beck y Ca., the German firm based in Havana at the beginning of the 20th century, when Cuba was the world epicenter of fine tobacco. Beneath the doors, the inscription “30 Placeres” recalls the original contents, almost like a period promise.
When opening it — and here you can sense the quality of construction — the interior reveals Spanish cedar, the traditional wood for preserving cigars for its aroma, its stability, and its moisture-regulating capacity. The contrast between the exterior mahogany and the interior cedar is warm, almost architectural, as if the box were designed to be both a container and a small desk piece.
The condition is exceptional: the wood retains its shine, the hinges operate smoothly, and the original key, still present, adds that touch of authenticity that rarely survives a century of life. It is a humidor that not only speaks of the history of Cuban tobacco but also of the foreign presence that helped expand it, and today it presents itself as a collection piece with a quiet and perfectly preserved elegance.
Certified shipment and good packing.
