Lot of 11 antique copper and brass monogram and branding templates from France, dating to around 1850–1900, each about 1 cm in size, in good antique condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Lot of 11 Antique Copper Monogram & Trademark Stencils – Circa 1900
Description
A beautiful and varied collection of 11 authentic monogram stencils, made from thin copper. These stencils were around the turn of the century (19th/20th century) used for marking linens and clothing, an essential part of the period’s trousseau. This set contains an interesting mix of techniques and styles:
Classic Monograms: Several plates with elegant swash letters and clean serif letters (including the initials 'F.T.').
Nameplate: A rarer stencil with the full name "Helene" in an elegant cursive script.
Perforation stencils: Two narrow strips with letters formed by fine holes, intended for transferring patterns with pounce powder or stamp powder for embroidery.
Ornamentation: Plates with decorative borders and floral elements around the letters.
Such stencils were used in combination with an ink pad or brush to mark ownership before the fabric went to the laundry or bleaching field. Today they are highly sought after by haberdashery collectors or for use in decorative mixed‑media art.
Condition
In good antique condition with a beautiful, authentic patina. Some plates show light wear and old ink residues, which contribute to the historical character. The plates are not bent and the cutouts are still sharp.
