Gabriele d'Annunzio's La Gioconda, an Italian four‑act tragedy bound in half‑leather (mezza pelle) with marbled boards, a 218‑page Ristampa edition from 1905 published by Fratelli Treves, Editori, featuring the author’s inscription and autograph signature.
Description from the seller
Gabriele d'Annunzio's La Gioconda is a four-act tragedy, originally published in 1898 and first staged in 1899. The Treves edition of 1905, often sought after, is part of the reprints (twelfth thousand) of this Tuscany-set work. The play tells of the inner turmoil of the sculptor Lucio Settala, torn between his love for his wife Silvia and his passion for the muse Gioconda. Binding in half-leather with marbled boards and corners, red leather spine label bearing the author and title in gold.
On the frontispiece there is a dedication with the autograph signature of Gabriele d'Annunzio. The inscription reads: "To Orlando Ammannati from the most diligent hands. Gabriele d'Annunzio". Orlando Ammannati was the accountant who managed the financial interests of d’Annunzio. Otherwise, some minor foxing, but the work is in excellent condition.
