Description from the seller
Set of friezes and ornamental decorations in bronze or brass, typically used to beautify antique furniture, looking glasses (mirror frames), or clocks. The displayed set includes several classical stylistic elements, in the Empire style or Neoclassicism. The Upper Central Frieze: This is a pediment-style ornament reminiscent of the top of an antique inkwell or mail sorter. It features elaborate ornamental motifs and, in complete pieces, often serves as a back support for correspondence.
Dimension: about 20x16 cm
Wings: Alate Griffins (Lower Sides): These two mirrored friezes depict mythological figures (griffins or winged lions). They are decorative moldings commonly applied to the corners of Empire-style looking glasses or furniture.
Dimension: about 25x9 cm
The Wheel of the Dawn (Lower Center): This embossed frieze depicts the deity Apollo driving a chariot drawn by horses through the clouds. It is a very common classical motif used as a frontal decoration for Empire-style clocks or bedheads.
Dimension: about 8x21 cm
Total weight is over 1 kg
Made in gilded bronze or cast brass. Many of these pieces are original from the 19th century or high-quality reproductions made between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In good condition with normal signs of wear and of the gold nan.
