ICON
di fotello
Tribute to Lionel Messi
In ICON, fotello transforms the figure of Lionel Messi into a contemporary apparition suspended between sporting myth and urban language. The work blends dynamic realism and gestural abstraction in a high-impact composition, where the movement of the athlete emerges with almost cinematic force from a metropolitan environment marked by graffiti, splashes and material stratifications.
The artist’s stylistic signature manifests through a masterful contrast between monochrome and chromatic vibration. The background, dominated by cool and industrial tones, evokes the concrete of urban fringes; on this rough surface sudden bursts of red, electric blue, orange and yellow explode, crossing the figure like energetic impulses. Color is not mere decoration: it becomes movement, speed, identity.
The definition of the image is extraordinarily precise. Messi’s body is built with a nearly sculptural care for anatomical details and light, while digital brushstrokes and spray effects dissolve the contours in a continuous tension between control and chaos. This visual duality amplifies the perception of athletic gesture, transforming sport into a form of absolute artistic expression.
In ICON, fotello represents not just a footballer: he constructs a universal symbol of talent, discipline and contemporary transcendence. The work sits at the boundary between street art, digital art and neo-expressionist portraiture, emerging as a powerful celebration of the aesthetics of movement and the collective imagination tied to the Messi legend.
fotello (Carrara, 1981) is a contemporary artist who works between painting and digital art.
Raised in a family context strongly linked to the artistic tradition — the grandmother was the artistic director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara — he developed from childhood a deep sensitivity to the visual arts.
After a path of studies in the artistic field, since 2001 he has pursued a personal research that unites painting techniques and digital tools, establishing himself as an author recognizable for his style and his ability to fuse tradition and innovation. His digital works, signed under the pseudonym fotello, explore the boundaries between imagination and technology, always keeping the human and creative element central.
Parallel to this, he pursues modern painting, with particular attention to abstraction, understood as a language capable of evoking emotions and meanings not immediately decipherable.
His works, both painting and digital, are part of private collections in Italy and in several European countries.
