Bram van Velde started working at age twelve for a home furnishings company to meet his family's needs. He was a natural talent, copying old masters from an early age and decorating furniture and lampshades for his firm. His employer recognized his great talent and encouraged him to develop further. Bram van Velde pursued his training at the painting and decoration studio Van Schaijk. Lives and works in France
Bram van Velde moved to Germany and settled in the artist colony of Worpswede. Here, in addition to several paintings in an expressionist style, he made his first lithograph—a self-portrait. It appeared in a publication by the artist colony in an edition of 500 copies. In 1924 he left with his brother Gerard for Paris. Paris was Bram van Velde's true school.
