Description from the seller
This is a vintage collage-style illustration with a golf theme, possessing a decorative and nostalgic air typical of the early 20th century (it resembles a lithograph or watercolor from the 1920s-1930s).
Main elements:
• Central figure: An elegant man with a mustache, dressed in a dark suit, white shirt, blue tie, and flat cap (typical golf attire of the era). He is in a stance to hit the ball on a golf course beside a lake or pond.
• Elements around the golfer (arranged like a collage):
• A large shield/medal with the inscription “MEDAL”, “B.C.” and “MONTHLY HANDICAP FAR AND SURE”.
• Blue flag with the word “GOLF.” in stylized typography.
• Golf bag filled with clubs.
• Blue sign that says “Player’s Please — TAKE CADDY CARS THIS WAY” (with arrow).
• Large golden circular medal.
• Silver trophy (cup) on the right.
• Straw hat, golf ball, tees, gloves and other accessories.
• A purple mask or cloth and a multicolor umbrella on the left.
Background and composition:
• The main scene is a golf course with trees, water and a clear sky.
• The entire illustration is framed by a diamond-pattern (argyle) in orange, green, gray and brown tones, very typical of classic golf aesthetics.
• At the bottom there are more objects: a scorecard, a tweed hat, classic two-tone golf shoes and a ball on a tee.
General style: Colorful, cheerful and full of detail. It has a strong decorative character, like the prints used to adorn golf clubs or as advertising illustrations from the golden age of British/American golf.
This is a piece highly representative of interwar golf culture, with an elegant and somewhat humorous touch."}
