Rare 17th/18th-century rural oak document chest / money chest – hand-forged ironwork

Authentic rural chest made from solid oak, probably originating from Flanders or Northern France and dating from the late 17th to early 18th century (ca. 1680–1730).

This exceptional chest was completely artisanally crafted and retains its original hand-forged iron hinges and locking mechanism. The front features beautiful geometric panels with primitive star decorations, characteristic of early rural folk art.

The chest rests on distinctive ball feet and has a warm, deeply weathered patina that only develops through centuries of use. The inside shows a lovely authentic rough finish with old wood joints and signs of manual construction.
