Such friendship combs were given on the occasion of certain festive events: engagement, wedding, the birth of the first child.
The upper piece features a finely carved head with all the characteristics of the chosen clan: scarifications on the face and neck, a very elaborate hairstyle, and a beard; it thus pays tribute to the ancestors and the traditional customs of the clan.
