Hasapi (Hatjapi) – Ancient lute, Sumatra
Authentic Hasapi lute from the culture of the Toba Batak, originating from the area around Lake Toba (Sumatra, Indonesia). This traditional string instrument dates from the 19th–20th century and is made of wood, with the characteristic boat-shaped body and a carved head.
The Hasapi was used to accompany singing and rituals and forms an important part of the cultural heritage of North Sumatra.
Length about 71.5 cm, weight about 1 kg.
Mounted on a handcrafted pedestal, suitable for display. A decorative and culturally valuable object for collectors of ethnographics and Asian art.
