FOTOTALA KING MASSASSY

Born in 1971 in Ivory Coast. He lives and works in Mali.

An unclassifiable artist, alternately a rapper, comedian and self-taught photographer. From 2015, he fully dedicates himself to his vibrant and hopeful photographs.

Through portraits of his everyday heroes, Fototala King Massassy speaks of the Africa he wants to see “know itself and love itself,” and intends to “show how dynamic, inventive, fertile Africa is.”
Exhibited at the Bamako Biennale, in France (Paris, Arles), in Senegal (Gorée) and in England (Brighton), this photographer is today considered the embodiment of the next generation of Mali’s great portraitists like Malick Sidibé and Seydou Keïta.

This body of work was notably exhibited at Galerie Art-Z during a solo show of the artist in 2021.
