Mauro Falcioni was born in Matelica in 1978, and has always been a visual artist and illustrator. He trained in graphics for the web without ever abandoning his true vocation: freehand drawing and painting. His stylistic registers range from fantasy to more figurative representations, until finding in the surrealist key the most effective solutions to express his view of the world. It is under this sign that his style matures over the years, translating the marks of pencils from paper to canvas and giving his works a recognizable grammar, made of recurring figures and scenes steeped in meaning. His poetics: the dream and the lived moment take shape with the passage into memory as well as with the creative act which, through the language used, delineates a difference between the artwork and the subject. That gap ends up constituting the subject itself. The author represents this insurmountable and at the same time essential discrepancy, using psychoanalytic references inherent in the Jungian tradition. The cat guides, inseparably linked to man as the kite to the child, because different images of the same self, refer to the concept of the Shadow, the darkest part of us that we are compelled to domesticate in approaching reality. Every other relation is present as lack or as a hint aimed at formalizing it: delving into the self, the author compels us to confront loneliness-melancholy as an existential condition of man, his peculiarity of “falling out of the world.”
