Pair of porcelain inkwells in cobalt blue enamel with floral decoration and gold fittings, dating to 1900–1910, made in France, each about 9 cm high with a 5 by 5 cm base, in good used condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Pair of polychrome porcelain inkwells, blue enamel with floral decoration and a gold-colored rim enriched by gilded foliate decorations in petit feu
from a writing desk to a square-bodied form
Mechanics: domed lids with hinges and metal snap closure; interior of the collar finished to house the ink.
The combination of intense cobalt blue, polychrome enamels, and metal mounts suggests a manufacture from the French or Central European area.
The design blends Rococo Revival taste with Belle Époque influences. The chromatic choice of the “Sèvres” blue paired with field flowers was very popular for luxury accessories intended for boudoirs or private studies.
Height 9 cm - base 5 x 5 cm
