Jonathan Wain's original acrylic painting 'Double Speak III - NO Reserve', completed in 2026, 50 x 65 cm, using acrylic and spray paint, signed, in excellent condition, originating from Spain and sold direct from the artist, frame not included, with COA and shipped rolled; depicts two stacked mouths on a distressed electric blue and caution red background.
Description from the seller
Available now is "Double Speak III," a powerful and provocative original work by Jonathan Wain. This is the third piece in the artist's acclaimed "Double Speak" series, which explores themes of communication, repetition, and the duality of modern discourse.
The work features two stacked, stylized mouths rendered in a bold, stencil-like aesthetic. By combining the textural depth of acrylic with the sharp, misty edges of spray paint, Wain creates a piece that feels both industrial and deeply human.
Visual & Thematic Analysis
The composition is built on a heavily distressed background of electric blue and "caution" red, achieved through aggressive scraping and layering techniques. This chaotic backdrop serves as a high-contrast stage for the two central motifs:
The Upper Mouth: Rendered in a vibrant, toxic yellow—evoking a sense of warning or loud, neon communication.
The Lower Mouth: Rendered in a stark, clinical white—providing a ghostly echo to the first.
The use of "broken" lines in the black outlines suggests a flickering signal or a distorted broadcast, perfectly capturing the essence of the title "Double Speak." The teeth are represented by rhythmic, repetitive "Y" shapes, further leaning into the artist's interest in semiotics and symbolic language.

Jonathan Wain is a contemporary British artist based in Spain whose work combines influences from street art, graffiti, pop art and abstract expressionism. Originally trained in Fine Art Sculpture at Manchester Metropolitan University between 1993 and 1996, he later turned his focus to painting, developing a distinctive visual language rooted in layered imagery and expressive mark-making.
Working primarily with acrylic and spray paint, Wain creates vivid, multi-layered compositions that often explore themes of myth, memory, conflict and transformation. His paintings blend spontaneous gesture with symbolic imagery, producing works that feel both playful and psychologically charged.
