Description from the seller
Martin Liebscher — Moscow (Detskij Mir), 2000
Panorama Series, C-Print on Aludibond, UV-laminated
Format: 290 × 70 cm (114 × 27.5 inches)
Edition: 1/3 (first of three)
Technique: C-Print on Aludibond with protective UV lamination
Subject: The sweeping staircase of the legendary Moscow department
store Detskij Mir ("Children's World") on Lubyanka Square,
photographed shortly before the building's major renovation.
Liebscher's characteristic panoramic technique unrolls the vertical
staircase into a single, uninterrupted horizontal band — 290 cm wide,
compelling the viewer not to stand opposite the image but to be drawn
into it.
About the artist: Martin Liebscher first gained international
recognition through his Panorama and Destination series — large-format
photographic works that transform architectural spaces into sweeping,
uninterrupted horizontal bands. His later Family Pictures series, in
which he inserts himself dozens of times into public and private
spaces, brought him to a wider audience. The present work belongs to
his early and most concentrated body of work.
Artist reference: martinliebscher.de/detskij-mir/
Provenance: Acquired on 15 January 2001 directly from Galerie Voges
+ Deisen, Frankfurt am Main — from the running exhibition, in personal
conversation with the artist. First edition (1/3). Original purchase
receipt available.
Condition: Very good. Wall-mounted for many years in a private
residence. Original mounting hardware included.
