Description from the seller
Maria Assumpció Raventós, Spanish School - Abstract Composition with Letters - Mixed Media.
HISTORY AND CURATORIAL ANALYSIS
An attractive original work by the multifaceted artist Maria Assumpció Raventós (Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, b. 1930), a renowned painter, printmaker and tapestry creator. Trained at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi and with a significant international profile (National Print Prize, Creu de Sant Jordi), Raventós is one of the key figures in the material abstraction of the contemporary Catalan school.
In this mixed-media piece, the artist articulates a composition with a clearly informalist slant. The pictorial space plays with the inclusion of large typographic characters that emerge amid dense layers of matter, textures and white and black impastos. The use of an energetic line and the subtle touches of ochre, blue and emerald demonstrate her absolute artistic command, fusing graphic sensibility with the forcefulness of material painting. It is a work of great modernity, where the letters lose their strict communicative function to become pure architectural and visual elements within the painting.
