Description from the seller
Two old spring balance scales dating from about 1850–1900 from Germany.
The first is by Carl Blombach, Ronsdorf - Rheinland; Holz- und Blechbearbeitungs-Industrie.
This crescent-shaped scale is a 19th-century handheld balance scale which was used on farms, mills, and in a variety of trades that were active in the past.
Attached to the oval iron ring are several eyes (sockets) and two hooks.
The copper dial has, on one side, a scale from 1 to 28 and on the other side from 10 to 150.
The maker’s name is engraved in the copper plate: C Blombach.
The scale is 32 cm long. Weight: 290 g.
The second scale has no brand, but is made in the same manner as the first. It features a three-part copper suspension.
The copper dial has, on one side, a scale from 0 to 18 and on the other side from 10 to 150.
This scale is also 32 cm long.
Both scales have a crescent-shaped, copper-embossed scale gradation. The front and back sides have different scale markings, corresponding to the mechanism of the scales. The small ring has a small hook and is intended for small goods.
When in use, the scale is held at the upper ring and the weight is attached to the corresponding hook.
The indicator is attached to the outer ring, and the end has a notch that fits around the copper plate and thereby serves as the pointer to indicate the weight.
Both scales are made of iron and copper and are fully functional and in good condition.
