Ayrton Senna da Silva (São Paulo, March 21, 1960 – Bologna, May 1, 1994) was a very successful Brazilian racing driver who, in a span of ten seasons, became a three-time Formula 1 World Champion. He started in 161 races, with 65 pole positions and 41 wins.

Ayrton Senna began his racing career at the age of four in karting. After competing in Formula Ford 1600 and 2000 classes, he won the British F3 in 1983 ahead of Martin Brundle.

He died as a result of a crash in the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994. His death caused much upheaval in the F1 world, and led to a whole series of safety measures.
