Description from the seller
MEDSAN - Edo Express – L'Express d'Edo – Edo Express
With this square-format work, Medsan continues his bold exploration and delivers a new urban and humorous vision of traditional Japan. This print features a mythical figure from ukiyo-e and Japanese culture — a stealthy ninja (shinobi) — reimagined as a contemporary fast-food delivery rider.
The visual and temporal contrast is striking: clothed in his traditional dark, loose garment, his face half-masked to preserve his historic anonymity, our nocturnal courier wears a pair of ultra-modern high-top sneakers, a wink to sneakerhead culture and streetwear. In perfect balance, he carries in one hand a towering stack of colorful boxes stamped "Edo Pizza Delivery," while in the other he holds a slice of pepperoni pizza, caught red-handed on a gourmet pause in the middle of his mission.
The impact of the work also rests on its intensely violet, solid background. This decor-less setting, inspired by modern Pop Art, highlights the dynamism of the crouching pose and the biting irony of the situation. The signature "Medsan" in katakana (メドサン) placed in the lower-right corner seals this perfect fusion between Edo period classical art, hype culture, and our immediacy-driven society.
A piece with incredible charisma, both absurd and resolutely urban, ideal for adding a pop, colorful, and offbeat touch to a design-focused interior.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living and plural contemporary creation. Established as a genuine artistic production space, the studio operates both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work influenced by cinema and realism. Alongside him, Medsan, focused on pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, art brut, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and supervised within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
