About the artwork

With 黒雪の鳥居 (Kokuyuki no Torii), I aimed to create a “contemporary print”: a winter landscape inspired by ukiyo-e, pierced by a pop-culture icon (Dark Vader) integrated as a print-character. The composition, the fine snowfall, the atmospheric gradients, and the breath of the sky are a direct homage to Utagawa Hiroshige: this way of making silence exist, then placing a presence within it that changes everything. Here, Dark Vader stands before the torii as if facing a threshold: still, solemn, almost spiritual. The contrast between the whiteness of the landscape and the black silhouette creates a calm tension, a waiting.

In the top right, the cartouches echo the tradition of prints:
