A 119 cm tall polychrome wooden sculpture of Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara) in a standing pose on a double lotus base, dating to the 20th century, from China, attributed as Original with Original/official authenticity and described as in good condition.
Description from the seller
A majestic and tall (119cm) polychrome wooden sculpture of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, also known as Avalokiteshvara Padmapani. This figure is depicted in a standing posture atop a double lotus base, holding a lotus bud — a symbol of purity and enlightenment.
The sculpture is a classic representation of Chinese Buddhist art. It features a serene facial expression with downcast eyes, suggesting deep meditation, and a five-leaf crown. The flowing robes and scarves (celestial ribbons) provide a sense of movement and grace characteristic of the Qing period.
Condition:
The sculpture is in overall fair condition for its age. As shown in some of the images there are various age-related surface cracks and minor losses to the polychrome and gesso layers, which are expected in large wooden figures of this era. There is no major structural damage; the figure remains stable and impressive in stature.
Provenance:
Acquired in 1999 from a reputable antique dealer in Stuttgart, Germany, for 5,300 Deutsche Mark (Original invoice included).
In the same private collection since 1999 (held by descent).
Shipping: Personal collection in Berlin is preferred due to the size and delicate nature of the gesso. International shipping is possible via oversized parcel (>120cm) to all EU countries at 80€ postage through DHL.
