The incense burner is designed in the shape of a three-legged tripod, with a lion-shaped knob on the top of the lid, symbolizing protection and warding off evil. The animal-head handles on either side add to its solemnity. The most striking feature is the openwork relief carving on the body of the burner: one side depicts a scholar playing the zither under a pine tree, while the other side portrays figures listening to the music, with delicate and vivid lines.
