A very interesting and rare book from Rev. James Gilmour published around 1900 by the Religious Tract Society..."Among the Mongols"...Bound in original pictorial green cloth with bright gilt and very little sign of wear. Black & white frontispiece, 32 black and white illustrations (some full-page) throughout the text. This book aims at representing to the western reader whatever is most noteworthy and interesting in the home life, manners and customs, occupations and surroundings, modes of thought, superstitions and religious beliefs and practices of the Mongol tribes who inhabit the eastern portion of the plateau of Central Asia lying between Siberia on the north and China on the south." From the preface. Book in very good condition. Externally only light wear around edges and corners,light stains on rear board,shelfwear. Inside complete, overall very good clean condition. Scarce in original binding. On front board presentation label of London Missionary Society.
