Claudy Jongstra - Textile - 160 cm - 45 cm - Scarf

Claudy Jongstra (1963) is a Dutch textile artist, who works with wool that she felts in an artisanal way. The wool comes from her own flock of Drenthe heath sheep in Spannum, Friesland, and a botanical garden has been established for the plant-based dyes.

A major commission at the beginning of her career concerned fabrics for the Jedi in Star Wars Episode 1. Jongstra has also created fabrics for Alexander van Slobbe, Maarten Baas, Hella Jongerius, John Galliano, Christian Lacroix and Donna Karan. Later Jongstra turned to autonomous artworks for the interiors of buildings, such as the Fris Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. For the interior of the Van Gogh House in Zundert in 2008 she made large curtains. From the leftover fabric of that she recently produced a number of scarves in small editions, including this one. The scarf is supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

The work of Claudy Jongstra is included in various collections, including the Stedelijk Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Claudy Jongstra was chosen as Artist of the Year 2019.

Van Gogh AiR Charity Auction

The Van Gogh House invites artists to come and work for a period of time in Vincent’s birthplace Zundert. They literally step in the footsteps of Van Gogh here and that yields remarkable results. The artists donate works that are auctioned for the benefit of the Van Gogh artist-in-residence program.

Beforehand and during the auction period the works are exhibited in the Van Gogh House. You can view the works there and afterwards pick them up here. You will receive notification about the auction afterward.
