Original French edition printed in 750 copies on alfa satin paper by Outhenin Chalandre (no. 141), single edition with 50 off-print copies on the same paper.
It was the human landscape that moved him. It seems that Beauty, to touch the senses of Flush, must be condensed first, then infused, green or violet powder, by a celestial syringe, into the velvety depths of his nostrils; and his ecstasy, then, did not express itself in words, but in silent adoration. Where Mrs. Browning saw, Flush smelled; he sniffed when she had written.
