Description from the seller
Johann Friedrich August Blunck
19th Century Interior Scene with Figures – Signed – Oil on Canvas
Description:
Charming 19th-century oil on canvas depicting an intimate interior scene with two women seated at a table, engaged in reading. The composition is rich in detail and atmosphere, with careful attention to facial expression, textiles, and light. The painting reflects the genre tradition of domestic life scenes popular in the mid-19th century.
After careful examination, the signature appears to read ‘A. Blunck’. The signature was compared with documented examples of Johann Friedrich August Blunck and appears consistent with the artist’s known signatures. The signature is only visible under direct flashlight.
The painting is signed A.blunck in the lower right corner; however, the signature is difficult to photograph clearly due to its dark tonality.
Condition:
The painting shows visible craquelure (age-related cracking of the paint surface). It is mounted on its original stretcher and presented in a later wooden frame. Overall condition is consistent with age.
Dimensions:
With frame: 90 × 75 cm
Image size: 73 × 58 cm
The frame visible in the photo is included as a courtesy and does not form an integral part of the work. Any damage to the frame will not be a valid reason for complaints or cancellations of the order”
