Grand green onyx decorative vase in mid‑century modern style, dating to 1960–1970, made in Pakistan, height 25 cm, top diameter 9.6 cm, base 10 cm, weight 2075 g, in near‑new condition.
Description from the seller
Grand decorative vase in veined green onyx, crafted in the style of 1960s–1970s design. This important piece of polished hard stone perfectly illustrates the modernist aesthetic of the era, characterized by the use of luxurious natural materials and by sober lines of architectural inspiration. The onyx used here presents a particularly nuanced palette, blending translucent olive greens, honey tones, cream, and mahogany-brown veins.
The vase adopts a slender, harmonious silhouette: wide flared neck with a thick rim, narrowing neck, generous oval body, then a circular base with a double shoulder ensuring a pleasant visual stability. Each face reveals a different mineral pattern, animated by concentric strata, marbling and natural veins that traverse the stone throughout its thickness. The polishing remarkably enhances the translucency of the onyx and the depth of its chromatic variations.
The overall condition is close to new. The surface retains a beautiful original gloss with only a few light signs of use and discreet natural irregularities inherent to the stone. No major chips or visible restorations are to be reported, and the piece as a whole shows particularly satisfactory conservation for this type of decorative object.
During the 1960s–1970s, green onyx enjoyed significant success in European decorative arts, notably for vases, bowls and ornamental objects intended for modernist interiors. Often imported from Pakistan, this stone was appreciated for its spectacular appearance and its ability to diffuse light. This large model, rarer than the small versions frequently associated with gilded mounts, fully reflects the era’s taste for mineral materials and sculptural volumes.
Dimensions:
- Height: 25 centimeters,
- Upper diameter: 9.6 centimeters,
- Base diameter: 10 centimeters,
- Weight: 2075 grams.
The vase will be carefully packaged and shipped promptly in a secure manner. In-person pickup and combined shipping are available. The photos are part of the description.
