Jules Atarax, Nietzsche – Inner Vision, an expressionist mixed‑media painting on canvas (oil and acrylic) from the 2010–2020 period, original edition, 40 × 30 cm, hand-signed, Belgium origin, excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This work offers an expressionist interpretation of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, seized in a state of extreme tension, between lucidity and inner conflagration.
The profile, immediately recognizable by its moustache and tense posture, is deliberately distorted and amplified. Far from an academic search for likeness, the painting seeks here to translate psychic intensity. The open mouth evokes both a cry and a proclamation, while the red beam crossing the eye acts as a mental projection — a vision directed outward.
The composition rests on a strong contrast between the dark background and the figure radiated with cold greens and electric blues. This palette creates a nocturnal and almost metaphysical atmosphere, where the character seems to emerge from a mental space more than from a real space.
The painting treatment remains direct and gestural: visible brushstrokes, fluid outlines, simplification of forms. This deliberate economy enhances the expressive power of the face and gives the canvas an immediate presence.
In this work, Nietzsche appears less as a historical thinker than as a figure of human intensity: visionary, tense, pierced by his own thought.
This work is among the last paintings currently available by Jules Atarax; while the artist’s more recent pieces have already been acquired, this rare availability offers collectors a privileged opportunity to acquire an original work in a phase where the available production becomes extremely limited.
A rare opportunity before the complete disappearance of this series from the market.
His works are in private collections in the USA, Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain and Italy.
We offer on Catawiki the latest pieces available from this period 2019-2024.
