Description from the seller
Lot of 5 Vintage Alabaster Jewelry Boxes from Italy – 1950s/60s – Rare with a Piece Signed "Violani"
Splendid and elegant vanity set consisting of 5 round and oval jewelry boxes in genuine natural Italian alabaster, dating to the mid-20th century (approximately the 1950s/60s), probably manufactured in Volterra. The lids feature refined floral decorations in vibrant tones. The lot includes one piece of high rarity signed by the artist "Andrea Violani".
Details of pieces and features:
Large Oval Box (Strong Piece) – Collector’s rarity.
Dimensions: 8 x 6 x 4 cm.
Color: Rare and elegant semi-gloss sage green.
Details: Signed by the artisan "Violani" on the lid, bearing the inscription "Moby" and retaining the original label on the golden edge reading "Brass Guaranteed" (Ottone Garantito).
Piece in excellent vintage condition.
Large Round Box Dimensions:
8 cm x 4 cm.
Color: Cream/ Pale yellow alabaster.
Defects: Presents a small crack on the lid edge and the brass hinge on one side is off-track, causing the lid to tilt slightly backward (a defect easily detectable to expert hands).
Medium Round Box Dimensions: 6.5 cm x 4 cm.
Color: Cream alabaster with floral decoration.
Good overall condition.
Pair of Small Round Boxes (2 pieces)
Dimensions: 4.5 cm x 4 cm each.
Color: Cream alabaster.
Defects: One of the two pieces shows physiological darkening of the gold-tone metal profile due to aging.
The other is in excellent condition.
Note for bidders:
The minor defects found on some pieces are greatly offset by the rarity and value of the signed Violani oval piece. Alabaster is a cold, heavy natural stone; the edges and hinges are brass.
