A high silver vase/jug from Portugal by Javali in .900 silver, dating to 1850–1900, with a height of 21 cm, a diameter of 6 cm, and a weight of 138 g, in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear, featuring two S-shaped wings and acanthus leaf relief in an Art Nouveau/Neo-Rococo style.
Description from the seller
This is an elegant silver piece, identified as a tall-standing jug or decorative vase in a classical style, featuring the Portuguese contrast known as “Javali”.
General Characteristics
• Piece Type: Tall-standing vase/jug with two wings (amphora-style).
• Material: Silver, confirmed by visible contrasts on the upper edge.
• Style: Art Nouveau or Neo-Rococo influence, evidenced by organic shapes, scrolls, and leaf reliefs.
Design Details
• Body: It has an inverted and elongated conical shape. The upper part of the body is richly decorated with acanthus leaf reliefs and scrolls on a dotted background (chiseling technique). The lower part of the body presents simple longitudinal ridges that direct the eye toward the base.
• Wings: Two symmetric lateral wings in an "S" shape with details of small flowers and foliage, giving lightness to the piece.
• Mouth/Neck: The mouth has a pearled (frilled) rim. The neck is smooth and polished, opening gently toward the opening.
• Base: Circular and domed, decorated at the junction with the body by a crown of leaves. The lower edge of the base repeats the ornamental motif with a band of interlaced small flowers.
