Description from the seller
Daniel BEEN (Rotterdam 1885 - Baarn 1967)
Oil on panel painting.
Among the many artists who chose Baarn as their home was, at the time, the painter Daniel Been, born in 1885 in Rotterdam. As a child he always loved drawing, and when he grew older he had but one wish: to become a painter! His father did not see it that way and thought a clerical job would be more suitable for him, because steady work and a regular income are, after all, much better, aren’t they? Daniel doubtless thought differently, but he obeyed. Thus he started work as a junior accountant at the firm Weduwe van Nelle in Rotterdam. He did not stay there long, as he was not happy. After this brief clerical job he became a pupil at the Academy for Visual Arts in Rotterdam. Here he acquired the knowledge that he would later put to good use as a painter. He painted like a true Rotterdammer, many works of the harbors. He created flower pieces, bought the necessary flowers from a florist, and produced in his studio paintings of these pieces. He mainly produced oil paintings in large and small sizes, but also watercolors and pastel drawings. What he painted was in a naturalistic manner, a style that would remain popular with the refined art-loving public.
Painting in good condition; frame shows light signs of use.
Note: The painting is not sold to the USA due to import duties.
