Elise Eekhout's original 2020 acrylic/mixed-media painting Tranquil City 07 is a 100 × 50 cm canvas abstract cityscape with gold and copper leaf, hand-signed and delivered directly from the artist.
Description from the seller
In this work the artist has played with contrasts between cool and warm, between structure and fluidity. The use of gold and silver leaf brings a sparkle that captures the soul of the city—a vibrant, almost magical feeling. You are carried along on an expressive exploration of urban energy, where chaos and calm embrace each other. It fills every space with a pulsating, warm light.
In this painting the artist has played with acrylic, (solid) gold leaf and copper leaf to capture a deep sense of mystery. The abstract layers and impressionistic touches, combined with typographic texts, create an entirely new dimension. It brings a warm energy into your space.
The painting is made with red, yellow, and purple-blue acrylic paint on canvas. Details of gold-colored leaf metal are incorporated into the artwork. The artwork can be hung without a frame as the sides are painted.
This work is the last available piece from Elise Eekhout’s series ‘Cities’ and is an abstract translation of an urban landscape. The changing light throughout the day ensures that the gold and silver details appear more or less prominent. As a result, the painting changes over the course of the day.

About the artist:
Elise Eekhout is a visual artist whose work subtly combines painting and language in a layered dialogue. Inspired by literature, memory and landscape, she creates works in which text and image exist side by side—sometimes clearly visible, sometimes barely perceptible. Letters function both as meaning and as form and dissolve as soon as they are read.
Using acrylic paint, screen printing and materials such as (solid) gold and silver leaf, Eekhout builds up surfaces that respond to light and movement. As the viewer’s position changes, words appear or disappear and landscapes shift between presence and abstraction. Each work slowly reveals itself over time.
Themes of memory, transformation and humanity’s connection with nature run as a common thread through her work. Eekhout’s paintings invite quiet attention and reward prolonged looking, giving collectors a contemplative work that continues to unfold long after entering a space.
