Duška Marković belongs to the Yugoslav Naïve art movement, which flourished from the 1950s onwards and gained international recognition for its distinctive poetic quality. The canvas depicts a rural winter landscape: in the foreground, three peasant figures lead a red ox across a snow-covered field, while in the background small dwellings with snow-laden roofs emerge among bare trees. The sky, rendered in an unusual yellow-green chromatic range, lends the scene a suspended, almost fairy-tale atmosphere. The precise and controlled brushwork is characteristic of the Croatian Naïve tradition.
