Description from the seller
Seascape painting "Le Ria de Doëlan" - 2026
This work, entitled "Le Ria de Doëlan", is a painting that sits within the naïve art movement, with a strong influence of cloisonnism, defined by outlining the forms with a black line, reminiscent of stained glass.
Each element—boats, houses, rocks—is outlined with a thick black line. This gives the image an almost graphic structure and reinforces an image-d'Épinal or comic-strip feel.
Dominated by an intense, deep blue, the palette is completed by warm tones—the ochre walls, the brown rocks—that balance the composition. The green of the small land protrusion adds a touch of freshness.
The painting gives off an impression of absolute calm. The absence of people and the boats drifting peacefully at anchor evoke a suspended moment, perhaps a late summer afternoon.
It is a work that celebrates Brittany with joyful nostalgia. It transforms a classic southern Finistère coastal landscape into a modern, almost playful composition, where the blue color becomes the main character.
Painting by the artist Yves Decaudan - 1954
