Edmond Rostand, born April 1, 1868 in Marseille and died December 2, 1918 in Paris, is a French writer, playwright, poet and essayist.
He is the author of one of the best-known plays in French theater, Cyrano de Bergerac. His work is marked by the influence of Victor Hugo and Théodore de Banville, “of whom he is the most popular heir but also the most controversial.”
His wife is the poet Rosemonde Gérard and he is the father of the biologist and French academician Jean Rostand and of the poet and dramatist Maurice Rostand. (cf. Wikipedia)
