Description from the seller
Longus. Daphnis and Chloë. Paris, Jules Tallandier, 1922, viii-190 pp.
A quarto-volume (250x170 mm), half morocco with corners, smooth spine ornamented, gilt head (binding of the period). Fine condition of the binding. Interior very fresh, no foxing. Covers and spine preserved.
Illustrated edition with compositions by Raphaël Collin; preface by Jules Clarétie.
The work tells the story of two young children abandoned and then taken in by shepherds on the island of Lesbos: Daphnis and Chloë. Growing up together in an idyllic pastoral setting, they gradually develop a naive and sincere love, initially unaware of the feelings that unite them. As the tale unfolds, they progressively discover desire, jealousy, and the trials of love, while facing various obstacles, such as abductions, rivalries, or social differences.
