The illustrated edition of The Black Panthers by Stephen Shames, a hardcover English-language photography book of 152 pages, published by Aperture New York in 2006.
Description from the seller
Amid the largely nonviolent civil rights movement that swept across America, Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale founded the legendary Black Panther Party in Oakland, California in 1966. During the peak of the movement, from 1967 to 1972, photographer Stephen Shames had unprecedented access to the organization and he captured not only the public face — street demonstrations, protests, and militant armed actions — but also spontaneous behind‑the‑scenes moments, from closed party meetings at the headquarters to Bobby Seale working on his mayoral campaign in Oakland.
