Description from the seller
Adrián Rosa (b. 1931) - Spanish Contemporary School - XL Size- Botanical Surrealism: The Green Dream (1976)
Adrián Rosa Hidalgo is an essential figure to understand the artistic and cultural effervescence of the Balearic Islands during the second half of the 20th century. Born in Granada but biologically and artistically forged in the vibrant Ibiza scene from his childhood, Rosa balanced his strict academic rigor (degree from the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia) with a strong European openness. This combination gave him a solid international projection in the 60s and 70s, a period in which he successfully exhibited in important galleries in Brussels (Galerie l'Escalier), Paris and London.
This imposing large-format canvas (XL size), dated to the emblematic year 1976, represents a masterful and bold exercise in immersion into symbolist-style surrealism. Moving away from his usual genre scenes, the artist presents us with an enigmatic female figure who seems to levitate, be born, or organically merge with a lush and monumental vegetation. The stunning success of the piece lies in its daring color palette: a hypnotic spectrum of emerald greens, moss, and jade that bestows the work with an atmosphere of unmatched poetic mystery. The almost ethereal softness of the model’s flesh tones and hair contrasts wonderfully with the graphic force of the large botanical leaves dominating the canvas.
For current collectors and high-end interiors, original large-format pieces from the 70s figurative vanguard are experiencing a strong revaluation. This painting is, in every respect, a statement piece. Its magnetic surrealist aesthetic fits impeccably and directly into the most demanding contemporary interior design projects, mid-century design, and the current biophilic trend, offering international bidders the opportunity to acquire a work with high visual impact and proven historical trajectory.
