Burmese votive Buddha - Myanmar

DESCRIPTION

A charming Burmese votive statuette in bronze depicting Buddha seated in meditation, legs crossed, hands in dhyana mudra. It is made of poured bronze and covered with an ancient red lacquer, with significant traces of gold leaf gilding.

The hair, the face, and the base are characteristic of Burmese art.

Late 19th century, Mandalay period.

7.8 cm high, 4.9 cm wide, 2.5 cm deep.

For more than 30 years, I travel Southeast Asia and especially Burma, for pleasure, for meetings but also to find ancient objects. This statuette was bought in Bagan before the coup in 2020.
