About the artist:

Bernhard Freuler (1796-1858) graduated in 1816 from the Academy of Fine Arts in the Bavarian capital Munich and subsequently undertook a short course at the Academy of Vienna. In 1833 he was elected city archivist of Schaffhausen. As a painter and graphic artist he was mainly known for his dreamy landscapes that clearly mark the transition between Neoclassicism and Romanticism.
