Description from the seller
This impressive canvas is a striking example of all that makes the work of Gert van Reenen (1935–2018) so unmistakable: an explosion of energy, color, and life.
On a deep red and black ground, cobalt-blue strokes of paint and golden drip elements collide with unprecedented force. The gold, carried, almost flowing, forms the dramatic centerpiece of the composition and irresistibly draws the eye to the center of the canvas. Around it, the blue roars in meandering lines like lightning through the plane. The texture is tangible and robust: thick layers of paint, impressions, splashes. Material that does not conceal but rather speaks.
This is painting you feel before you understand it. This is how it touched us when we bought it in 2011 as well.
Gert van Reenen was not only an artist but also a restaurateur and bon vivant, and you can see it. His travels to Bonaire, Mexico, the French Provence, and Marbella directly bled into his palette — vivid, warm, free. This canvas breathes the same unguarded joie de vivre.
A monumental, powerful addition to any collection.
