Henri Hecht Maïk (1922–1993) is a singular French painter, heir to an imagination that is naïve, poetic, and deeply personal. Son of engraver Joseph Hecht, he began painting in the mid-1950s and quickly developed a recognizable universe: dreamy animals, luminous landscapes, fantastic trees, all carried by a childlike sensibility.
Often described as a “modern primitive,” Maïk is captivated by the freshness of his line, the gentleness of his colors, and the tenderness that emanates from every scene. His work has been shown in many galleries in France and internationally, as well as at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, confirming his unique place in 20th-century figurative painting.
On the market, Maïk’s works are sought after for their timeless charm, immediate legibility, and strong decorative power. They naturally find their place with collectors who appreciate poetry, dreaminess, and a form of soft modernity.
