AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Set of 17 storage boxes for Tsuba and Japanese sword fittings (Kiri-bako and lacquer).

Exceptional set of 17 presentation and storage boxes for tsuba, kogai, or kozuka. This lot is ideal for a collector wishing to showcase their pieces or for a dealer of Japanese antiques.

Lot details:

Kiri-bako: Paulownia wood boxes. The majority are natural wood, preferred in Japan for its humidity-regulating properties, thereby protecting the steel from corrosion.
Lacquered boxes: 3 elegant boxes with a dark lacquer finish and satin yellow/orange interior.

Variety of formats:
Standard square formats for tsuba (10x10 cm dark wood, 11x11 cm light wood).
Rectangular formats for other mounting elements 8.5x14.5 cm (fuchi-kashira or menuki).

Two large presentation boxes with red velvet interiors, 12x17 cm (one labeled "Fudoshin" - 不動心, evoking mental steadiness).

Interior finishes: Velvet in different colors (imperial purple, moss green, sky blue, scarlet red and beige), allowing varied contrasts depending on the patina of your pieces.

Condition: Very good overall. Some normal signs of use for collectible boxes. The hinges and clasps are functional. (Please refer to the photos for finish details).
The last 4 photos show minor defects: one has a split underside, another has green fabric stained with oil (likely the oldest), another has a peeling edge on the left side of the lid, and in the last one there is a small white paint splatter that should come off quite easily. In short, nothing major.

Happy bidding and thank you.
