Sonia Anton - Aurora

A single female figure rises from the centre of a richly textured gold background, her arms lifted above her head in a gesture of freedom and release. The figure is built entirely from thick, expressive brushstrokes in cobalt blue, teal, white, red, and pink, the colours layered and fragmented so that she seems to shimmer and shift depending on the light. The background is a warm, heavily worked gold, textured with deep grooves and marks that give it a sculptural quality. The contrast between the luminous figure and the golden ground is immediate and powerful.

I wanted to paint a woman in motion, not posed, not still, but completely free. The gold felt like light, like warmth, like something worth rising into. This one felt very alive while I was painting it.
