"Koi Dreams" #3 XL is a visual artwork by Nik Haku that moves between ritual, suspension, and quiet transformation. A solitary geisha figure is partially submerged in deep, moving water, her pale face and composed expression emerging as a point of stillness amid fluid motion. Two vivid koi glide alongside her body in a slow, deliberate orbit, their orange and ivory forms cutting through the muted blues and greens of the water. The surface ripples become a living texture, dissolving the boundaries between figure, reflection, and environment, as if the scene exists in a state between waking and reverie.

Artist’s statement:

This piece is part of an ongoing exploration of identity shaped by symbolism and repetition. The koi function as emblems of persistence, transformation, and memory in motion, while the geisha figure embodies restraint, inherited ritual, and composed stillness. What interests me is the tension between movement and containment—between what drifts freely and what remains anchored. In Koi Dreams, water becomes a threshold rather than a setting: a space where the self is neither fully submerged nor fully revealed, but gently altered through reflection, proximity, and quiet coexistence.
