Description from the seller
Original oil painting by Italian painter Otto Macerini (1927–2022).
Title: Two Roses
Date: 26/01/1958
Technique: oil on canvas
Dimensions: 50 × 40 cm
The painting depicts a floral arrangement reinterpreted through a geometric and chromatic construction of strong expressive intensity. The two roses emerge from a tangle of transparent shapes, overlays, and colored planes that transform the natural subject into an almost abstract structure.
The work belongs to the artist’s research phase in which figuration and abstraction coexist in balance, through a formal synthesis that emphasizes rhythm, light, and the relationship between volumes. The shapes of petals and leaves are broken down and reassembled into a dynamic pictorial weave, while the floral subject remains recognizable.
The palette, built on warm tones of pink, orange, ocher, and green, helps create depth and a luminous vibrancy, highlighting the chromatic sensitivity typical of the artist’s output in the 1950s.
The painting is signed on the front and dated on the edge of the canvas.
The work shows some signs of aging and minor surface imperfections compatible with the painting’s age, visible in detailed photographs. These features do not compromise the overall legibility of the work but testify to its authentic conservation over the decades.
During his career, Otto Macerini participated in several exhibitions in the 1950s and 1960s, including a solo show at the Spinetti Gallery in Florence in 1959.
The present painting is identifiable with the work "Al bagno" (no. 13 in the oil paintings catalog) exhibited on that occasion, as documented by the exhibition catalog.
Provenance: artist’s family archive.
Documentation:
The work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the artist’s archive.
It also includes a declaration of attribution of artistic merit drawn up by Prof. Ilario Luperini, a renowned art historian and critic, which helps define the critical and economic context of Otto Macerini’s painting production.
Shipping: the work will be carefully packaged with professional protection to ensure its integrity during transport.
Note: any ambient images included are purely illustrative.
