About Hans Kinkel
The German collector and photographer Hans Kinkel left behind one of the most important private estates of German modernism and expressionist art of the 20th century. His collection encompassed works by important artists from classical modernism to postwar art and united photography, visual arts, and art-historical documents in a unique way. Together with Klapheck he published the Catalogue raisonné of graphic arts 1977 - 1980. After his death, a significant part of the estate was presented in the exhibition “From Kirchner to Baselitz – A Centuries-old Heritage: The Hans Kinkel Collection” at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The exhibition made the exceptional quality and art-historical relevance of the collection accessible to a broad audience and established Hans Kinkel's estate as an important testament to German art and cultural history.
