Wardell Stephen (Steph) Curry II (Akron, March 14, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who turned pro in 2009 with the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 2015 and 2016 and is a five-time NBA All-Star. He was a champion in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors in the 2014–15, 2016–17, and 2017–18 seasons. Curry also plays for the United States national basketball team. With this team he won gold at the 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Championships.
During the 2009 NBA Draft, Curry was selected by the Golden State Warriors. He signed a four-year contract worth $12.7 million. He was assigned jersey number 30, the same number his father wore during his NBA career. On October 28, 2009, he made his NBA debut against the Houston Rockets. In the 2011 NBA All-Star Game he won the Skills Challenge. In that same season he broke Rick Barry’s free-throw percentage record: 93.4%. In May 2011 Curry underwent ankle surgery due to a torn ligament. He continued to have issues with this ankle for the rest of the season, and he re-injured it three times in games. In total he played 26 of the 66 games that season.
